History of the College .

To provide quality legal education to large segments of the population and in particular to the groups such as those living in remote and rural areas in Kanchipuram and other neighbouring districts our Government Law College was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The this Law College establishment was approved and incorporated in the Policy note vide, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Law Department 2003 – 2004, demand No. 32 – Law. The Government of Tamil Nadu has graciously allotted 10 Acres of land in a peaceful place at Chengalpattu. The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University constituent Law College, Chengalpattu started functioning from 17th September 2003 in a rental building at No. 37/148 GST Road, Chengalpattu – 603 001. From 15th September 2004 onwards the college is functioning in the site allotted by the Government at NGGO Nagar, Thirumani Road, and Chengalpattu. And it was converted as Government Law College through G.O. MS No. 299 Law (LS) Department dated 5th December 2006. From the academic year 2007-2008 onwards our Government Law College, Chengalpattu is affiliated to The TamilNadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University.

Under the University Grant Commission’s Circular FN 8-270/2008 CPP I/C dated 24thMarch 2008 our Government Law College Chengalpattu has been included in the list of colleges prepared under section 2(f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 under the head “Government law College Teaching for Under Graduate students”.

This is the sixth Law College under the supervision of Director of Legal Studies, Chennai to provide legal education with affordable fee structure on par with other Government Law Colleges in Tamil Nadu.
